- חוֹרֶףm. (b. h. חֹרֶף; חרף) (severe season, Midwinter. B. Mets. 106b, a. e. (ref. to Gen. 8:22) חצי כסלו … ח׳ half of Kislev, Tebeth and half of Shbat form the midwinter. Yoma 10a בית ח׳וכ׳ they are called Winterhouse or Summerhouse, but not house without qualification. Koh. R. to VI, 3; Esth. R. to I, 2 ימות הח׳ winter-season.
